Rhetoric and ancient Neoplatonism; Christian Neoplatonism; Victorian reception of Neoplatonism
My main area of specialization is history of rhetoric -- especially ancient rhetorical theory, 19th century rhetoric, letter-writing theory, and rhetoric of philosophy and religion. In neoplatonic studies, I am particularly interested in how concepts of ineffability affected the teaching and practice of writing among pagan and Christian neoplatonists (and Plato himself. I\'ve also been working on how Christian theology affected the reception of ancient philosophy -- especially in 18th and 19th century Britain.
